COMPETITIVE-PREP GRANT
The JMUPREP initiative is a comprehensive, broad-based and collaborative effort that emphasizes both abstinence and contraception and addresses the adulthood preparation subjects of healthy relationships, parent-child communication, educational and career success, healthy life skills, and adolescent development in order to significantly reduce the number of teen pregnancies in the Harrisonburg, Rockingham and Page area of Virginia. The initiative focuses on reducing disparities in teen pregnancy rates among two priority populations: Latino youth, and rural youth. In Year Two, the project will involve 5 community partners, 15 sites, and 5,482 students. The overall outcome objective is to reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy by 25% among youth 10-19 in Harrisonburg, 15% in Rockingham, and 15% in Page County by 2018.

DRAW THE LINE /
RESPECT THE LINE

​Draw the Line/Respect the Line is a three-year, school-based sex education program for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. This program was primarily designed to help young adolescents postpone having sex. The program uses a 19-session curriculum that teaches youth how to establish and maintain limits regarding sexual behavior.
SAFER CHOICES
​
Safer Choices is a 2-year, multi-component STD, HIV, and teen pregnancy prevention program for high school students. The program aims to reduce the frequency of unprotected sex by reducing the number of sexually active students and increasing condom use and other methods of pregnancy protection among students who are sexually active.
WYMAN'S TEEN OUTREACH PROGRAM

The Teen Outreach Program (TOP) promotes the positive development of adolescents through curriculum-guided, interactive group discussions; positive adult guidance and support; and community service learning. TOP is focused on key topics related to adolescent health and development, including healthy relationships, communication, influence, goal-setting, decision making, values clarification, community service learning, and adolescent development and sexuality.

TOP teaches that:
Teens require active engagement, relevant knowledge, and skill building for both their development and to ensure participation in programs.
Sexuality information should contain factual, up-to-date and medically accurate information, including that abstinence is the safest, most-effective method to prevent pregnancy.
All people deserve respect, that parents and guardians are the primary sex-educators for their children, and that every family's values are important.
